25 Gratitude Journaling Ideas!

It’s so important to have a grateful heart.. you might think that’s a little cliche but I’m telling you .. practicing gratitude on a daily basis is absolutely LIFE CHANGING !! Why? Because when we’re grateful for things, it’s a natural occurrence to be happier about life. You realize the things you have rather than things you don’t.

Gratefulness teaches you to be more appreciative. It helps you to realize that things could always be worse no matter how bad the circumstances are. I’ve been working on practicing gratitude daily and one of the things I do is keep a gratitude journal!

Starting and maintaining a journal can be difficult at first simply because it’s another thing to remember to do, but after a while of keeping a gratitude journal, I promise you it’s worth it! Writing in this type of journal won’t feel like a chore or a job because it’s a peaceful time to just sit and write about something you’re thankful for on that day. So here are a few of the gratitude journaling prompts that I use in case you’d like to start your own journal here are some things you could write about:

  1. Where did you see God in your life today?
  2. What prayers have you seen answered recently?
  3. Who are you most grateful for and why?
  4. What are you taking for granted today that you should be grateful for?
  5. Who made you laugh today?
  6. Recall a time you needed and received encouragement.
  7. What body part are you grateful for and why?
  8. Why is it even important to be grateful?
  9. When is it important to be grateful?
  10. Why are you grateful for your family?
  11. If you’re married, why are you grateful for your spouse?
  12. What kind of food are you grateful for?
  13. What kind of technology are you grateful for?
  14. What blessings are you grateful for?
  15. Do you have any role models that you’re grateful for?
  16. What traditions are you grateful for?
  17. Are you grateful for any of the tough times that have made you stronger?
  18. Who forgave you or better yet, who did you forgive?
  19. What goals are you grateful for reaching so far?
  20. What simple thing made today a good day?
  21. What are you currently learning about God?
  22. What parts of you do you love about yourself that God created?
  23. What personal qualities/characteristics do you posses that you’re grateful for?
  24. What life lesson are you grateful to have learned?
  25. What are some non-materialistic things that you’re grateful for?
  • Lowers stress levels!
  • Helps you to gain a new perspective on what you truly appreciate in life!
  • It’s a way to find inner peace!
  • Contentment!
  • Genuine Happiness!
  • Helps you take care of the things you already have and genuinely appreciate the people in your corner that you’re truly grateful for.

If you don’t have a gratitude journal, then I strongly encourage you to get one! if you don’t want one, try making a list everyday of things you’re grateful for! To do this is rewarding for both your mental health and self care. Journals aren’t expensive! For me personally, having a cute one makes it a little more exciting haha don’t ask me why!   1. I guess minds think alike sometimes because I just posted about this on another site. I do believe that it is good when we wake up in the morning to take stock of the things we are grateful for such as waking up another day, having good food to eat, and for each of the things we are doing. And at night it is good to list all the things we have been thankful for in our days. I also noted that the challenges we have through life that are not what we would have liked or thought we needed are useful to us too. If we did not have the challenges, we might never learn compassion for others, or know how to truly help them when they need it. Our lives would not be as meaningful and a life with no valleys and hills might be boring indeed. So yes, I am in complete agreement.

      Practicing gratitude really does make you stronger on a deeper level mentally in so many ways! Something happened to me Monday that literally scared me to tears!   5. I’ve never heard of a gratitude journal but I like the sound of it, those are some great questions to ask yourself! I think it’s good to be able to sit down and think so things don’t seem so bad and you can relax a bit more.

  8. This is such a great post. Being grateful brings so much more in someone’s life! I feel like writing a gratitude journal would require too much efforts for me to keep up with all my other writings. However, ever since the beginning of the year I’ve started a Gratitude Jar in which I write down a little note at the end of every day. It lifts me up to be reminded of all of those tiny but amazing things that happened to me at some point and for which I’m grateful. It keeps me grounded.
