5 Ways to Stay Focused on Your Goals!

Apparently, there’s been some major drama happening in my community lately and I didn’t know anything about it until literally a few days ago. The person who was telling me about everything going on asked me, “Where have you been!?! How do you not know about this? Have you not been on social media? Everybody knows! How do you not know? Have you not been talking to such and such?” And my response was simply, “I guess I’ve been so focused on my own personal goals that I really haven’t made time for anything else that’s not helping me evolve.”

In that moment, I was so proud to even be able to say to say that about myself. Later on that night, my response to that person earlier that day made me think about everything I’d achieved thus far in reaching my goals this year. To be honest, I’m not sure that I’ve ever been as focused as I am now but it’s a good feeling. So I began thinking…

EXACTLY HOW HAVE I BEEN ABLE TO STAY SO FOCUSED?

I want to take the time to share with you some of the new methods I’ve applied to my life on this journey to reaching my goals and as well being successful in the business of entrepreneurship. Here are seven things that I’ve gotten in the habit of doing on a daily basis that literally help me stay focused.

  • ELIMINATE ANYONE WHO DOESN’T HELP YOU EVOLVE.

Re-evaluating my “circle” was the first step and also the hardest. In all honesty, success is hard to come by when you have people in your corner who aren’t genuine. After going through a season of God showing me who people really were vs. who they said they were, I began reconsidering people’s positions in my life. No, I didn’t burn friendships/relationships to the ground but I did define them and readjusted the amount of access they had to me.

I’m not a fan of fake love and support. To have those type of people in my corner are not only irritating but they’re a distraction too. I don’t need friends who only want to be connected to me in my moments of success but don’t want to be there in during the building process. If you don’t know how to be there when I lose, then you don’t need to be a part of when I’m winning. That’s just my personal perspective.

  • REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF TIME SPENT ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat are some of my most BIGGEST distractions. I can’t tell you how much time I’ve lost just sitting there scrolling down my timelines and newsfeeds keeping up with all the latest drama and basically everybody else’s business. Sometimes it’s entertaining but it’s really just a complete waste of TIME.

I’m just going to be honest here… I’ve genuinely reached a point in my life where I would rather work sixteen hours for myself in doing something that I love than to keep working eight hours for somebody else. I want to be my own boss. I don’t want to answer to anyone but myself. That spirit of entrepreneurship in me just absolutely will not die so why not chase what I really want to do? Why not work harder to create the life I really want to live?

One of my biggest goals this year is to make an income while making an impact. However, that is not possible when I’m constantly allowing myself to be distracted by pointless things. So, for the sake of being productive in reaching my goals and pursing my dreams, I’ve reduced the amount of time I spend on social media! I’m definitely still on there, I just choose not to scroll as much.

  • WEEKLY/DAILY GOALS

Between being a full-time mom, full-time healthcare employee, wife, maintaining my relationship with God and also somewhat of a social life (when I’m not in one of my introverted moods), I’m a very busy person! So I set weekly goals and daily tasks for my Blog Business to help keep me focused and reminded of what I need to get done. If you don’t make your dream a priority then it may never come true. It’ll always remain a dream or ideas just planted in the back of your head for the life you really want to live.

  • HEALTHY CONVERSATIONS

This is a little cliche but you it’s important to have friendships that go deeper than gossiping. You’ll find yourself more focused on your dreams when you actually connect with people you can discuss goals, money, investing, saving and starting businesses with.

  • PLANNING/WORKING AHEAD

Planning and working ahead are automatic winning strategies when it comes to reaching any type of goal! Working ahead is more of a preference but it is absolutely necessary to have a plan! Why? Because if you already know what you want to do then you need to know how you’re going to get it done. That’s where the planning comes in at. Once you get your plans together, it becomes easier to put action behind it.

I’m sure there are many other ways to stay focused on your goals but these are literally the top five that have been working wonders for me! I wish you many blessings and success on your journey to reaching your goals this year!!

  1. Love this! There is so much truth in this post. I’ve done this in my life, just since I started blogging, focusing more on my work than on other things around me. I check the weather on my phone, but stopped watching the news a year and a half ago, because it was too stressful to me. If there is anything important, I know that I will hear about it from those around me. I’m focused on my own world and family, and only allow in those who help me grow. Great post!

    1. Yeah I stopped watching the news a long time ago too! It’s depressing !! 😣 on top of that, other people’s drama that has nothing to do with me is just a waste of time, literally! It’s amazing how cutting that much out alone will help you with the focus of reaching your goals. Thank you so much for stopping by to read my post today!! 💜

  2. Girl, this is probably one of my favorite posts of yours! All of these tips are great & are tips that I have been currently working on as well. It’s so hard to pursue your goal when you have toxic and unsupportive people around you (whether it be in person or on social media) – it’s important to choose our circle wisely, plan ahead & reduce all kinds of distractions.

    1. Thank you !!! 💕 & Yes , I have found that I’m more productive when I spend LESS time on social media. It’s really just kind of healthy all around honestly!
