Blogging is FUN But Definitely Not Always Easy!

Blogging is fun but when you’re trying to make a career out of it or just a passive income .. it’s hard! As much as this generation is obsessed with social media, technology or the internet period, you’d think it’d be easy to make money from blogging but it’s not!

You could write something and think it’s so interesting that it would drive tons of traffic to your blog.. you finally hit “publish” and after 24 hours of posting it, you’re a little disappointed because you didn’t get the outcome or results you were expecting! Because of that, sometimes we start doubting ourselves or our own creativity but in reality, it’s not always the fact that your writing is boring or sucks. It’s just the simple fact that it’s not as easy as you think to get people to click onto your links and engage in your posts! Blogging is hard and I’m gonna tell you why!

Support is hard to come by! The people that you expect to be supportive of you and your blog will truly surprise you! I remember when I had my first blog. It was like pulling teeth trying to get the support of my family and friends! It was so frustrating but I didn’t let that stop me. I kept blogging and after a few months, I noticed that I had so much genuine support from over a thousand people all over this world that were initially strangers vs. everyone I knew locally! Had I gotten discouraged in the beginning when I felt like no one believed in me around here, I would’ve never saw the beauty of how my writing could encourage other people all over this world!

A good amount of traffic on a daily basis is hard to come by as well. Again, you would think that as much as people are on the internet these days, especially social media.. that it wouldn’t be hard at all to get people to click on the link to your website or blog posts! Like people are seriously so nosy these days that on social media, they’ll check your profile and post updates religiously but ooohh not in the world of BLOGGING! When it’s a blog post that you’re trying to draw some attention to, you have to really do something with it to catch their attention for that one little split second that they see it in before they decide to just scroll on by! Catchy Titles have A LOT to do with that! Pinterest is the main source of traffic for my blog but on days when my Pinterest is slow, I find it harder to promote on other social media sites because like I said .. it’s just hard to lure people in!

When I first started monetizing my blog, I had high hopes for making lots of money through Ad Networking with companies like Google AdSense for example .. after doing some exploring just kinda seeing which Ad Networks worked best for me and my niche, I found some where I could make a little money and some others where I could potentially make good money (it really just depends on the amount of traffic you generate on a daily basis) but overall, I came to the conclusion that if you’re looking to make a good income from blogging, you can’t just depend on working for the Ad Networking Companies, unless you’re gonna generate an insane amount of traffic to see the big bucks, otherwise.. you will be disappointed!

Affiliate Marketing is a really GOOD way to make some money with your blog! Seriously! There are a lot of phenomenal companies out there like Amazon, Ebay, Esty, Lulu’s, ShareASale and Hobby Lobby that have great affiliate programs where you can advertise their products on your site and if a reader clicks the link you’ve shared and makes a purchase, you get a commission from it! The commission from those sales add up and before you know it … you are literally making bank!

But here’s the catch .. You’ve gotta be a good salesman! Not only do you have to get people to buy the products but you’ve gotta get them to buy it through your affiliate link otherwise, it doesn’t count! In all honesty, one of the companies I’m currently working with is Amazon. I’ve been working with them for almost a month now and I’ve only sold two items! Yikes!! It’s not as easy to sell as I thought it’d be but it’s most certainly not impossible!

This is actually an easy strategy! If you’re a creative person you could make your own products and make direct sales and earn money quicker. Whether you make personalized items or write books you could make a killing off it but you gotta be good at whatever it is you’re trying to sell!

So blogging can be really challenging when it’s more than a hobby. However, it’s not impossible to make a career, fulltime job or passive income out of it! It just takes hard work, true dedication and real money making strategies! One thing is sure.. if blogging doesn’t teach you anything else, it will definitely you patience!! So hang in there! keep writing, inspiring people, perfecting your craft and exploring what works best for YOU when it comes to monetizing!! Sending lots love and positive vibes your way!!

  1. I love this! It’s so real. I love blogging, but there’s a lot more to it than I initially thought. It’s something that I’m determined to stick with because I because I enjoy it. Thanks for sharing.✨

  2. Thankfully I fell in love with blogging before I realized just how much work goes into it. But it’s become my passion because I’ve built something out of literally nothing. I feel incredibly blessed by my readers and the feedback every day. It is definitely worth it! But we get out of it what we put in. The big thing is giving it all we’ve got and never giving up.

    1. Powerful comment !! “You get out what you put in” is soooo TRUE !! 🙌🏽 I love blogging too but this is my first time trying to do some hardcore monezting and I see how hard it is! lol there’s ALOT of opportunities out there! I’m not even close to done exploring but it is definitely a a challenge! Requires you to step your game up!! Thanks so much for reading and commenting !! ❤️

  3. This post was really is timed for me. As you saw, I’m just now drawing ads to my page. But I don’t want them there.

Ads are intrusive and detract from the reader’s experience. I don’t want my site to look cheap and commercial — I want to promote and atmosphere of elegance and deep, honest emotion.

As much as I want some extra income, I am uneasy about marketing and… I get incredibly anxious with every attempt to refine my writing.

I have natural talent but not honed skill. Some day I might push hard enough for long enough to create something brilliant, but until then it’s all basically journal writings. I drawing stones from the river; I’m not sifting for gold.

Cheers, love. Your encouragement is wonderful.

    1. Not everyone wants to monetize their blog and that’s totally okay!
If I were you, I would contact WordPress customer service and see about getting them removed if you weren’t the one to actually put them there yourself.
Thanks for reading and commenting 💕

  4. Great post Jessica!! It is definitely hard to get a post out every week and advertise it while working a full time job. It is also hard to keep going when you are not seeing much love. I love blogging though do no matter how much or little love I get, I will continue on 😁

    1. It is ESPECIALLY HARD when you’re working a full time job, parenting and all of the above!! Keep blogging and building your community girlfriend ! 💕 thanks so much for reading and commenting !!

  5. Yes. Blogging when done as a hobby is fun but it’s not when you are serious about it. I am now really nervous what I would do, perhaps not monetize at all. But thank you for this post. I needed this. 😊

  6. 🙂 There is always more to blogging than meets the eye.

In addition to producing the content for our blog, we have to promote it via social media.

One’s readership grows slowly with a lot of hard work thrown in.

Do have yourself a fabulous weekend!

  7. It’s definitely been fun so far. I’ve noticed a nice uptick in average traffic a few weeks back and can’t wait to see the next jump. There’s always something to do though. It’s a good thing but yes it’s not always easy.

  8. This really was an amazing post with an excellent message! You always provide the best advice and it never fails to love having you as a friend! I started blogging almost 2 years ago with little expectations because I knew nothing about it. I am determined to keep blogging as much as I can, but it is hard at the moment because working full-time leaves me feeling so exhausted. On the days I can write something I think is good enough to publish, I always will!

    1. Thanks girl !!! 😘😘
I feel the same way about blogging with a full time job lol it’s so hard !! Thanks so much for reading and commenting !!
