Social Media Can Be Such A Distraction!!

Do you check your phone first thing in the mornings? Do you lay there and scroll down your social media newsfeeds until you finally make yourself get out of bed? Do you check it every hour? Half hour? More? Do you watch TV and have your phone out checking emails, Instagram and Facebook? Do you check social media during your work hours? (Pinky Promise I won’t tell your boss! haha)

If you answered “yes” to these questions then you probably spend entirely too much time on the internet. Social Media is more likely to have a negative impact on your life if you don’t know how to use it to your advantage. Now.. there actually a few positive benefits of using Social Media! It’s not all bad. You can use it for:

  1. Building relationships. Social media is not just about brands connecting with their customers.
  2. Share your expertise. It gives you the opportunity to talk about what you know and what you want to be known for.
  3. You can use it to increase your visibility.
  4. Promote your business whether it’s self-owned or promoting for another company.
  5. You can also use it to educate yourself, find inspiration or be an inspiration!

Social Media really does have some positive aspects but it can also be very negative too. As a matter of fact, social media can be one of the biggest distractions that you ever encounter! It will cause you to waste so much time if you don’t learn how to use it in a productively manner. It’s easy to get distracted and entertained by things that have nothing to do with your goals, especially the never ending drama!

For example, if I see a few people arguing under a Facebook post, and even though it has nothing to do with me, I will sometimes sit there and read all 252 comments!! That is the biggest waste of time!! (And don’t act like you’ve never done that before. haha!) As a matter of fact, I think a lot of us are guilty of doing that from time to time.

However, if this year is going to be different, you CANNOT afford distractions. Break the cycle of being distracted by not only social media but also things that have nothing to do with your goals. Manage your time better. Spend time working on things that you can look back and thank yourself for later. If nothing else.. feed the intellectual part of you. Read and self-educate!! An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest going forward.

Lets work on staying committed and focused on our goals and dreams. Be SO FOCUSED that you allow NOBODY or NOTHING to throw you off your path to reaching success!! Sending lots of love and positive vibes your way!!

  1. Since starting a blog I’ve spent way too much time on social media! It’s hard to be productive and I find myself spending a half hour in the morning and at night (as I lay down to go to sleep). I’m trying to be more conscoiuous of the time though!

    1. & sometimes it’s really hard to stop scrolling once you get started !! I saw a HUGE change in my productivity when I started spending LESS time scrolling down my timelines & newsfeeds. The results made me proud and every since .. I’ve just kept repeating my same little strategy! lol if I’m on SM now, it’s never for too long! Thanks for reading, commenting and showing my post some love !! 💕

    1. Facebook is honestly probably where the most drama is at !! I don’t even waste my time anymore. If I scroll now, it’s never for entirely too long. It’s such a WASTE OF TIME.

    1. Yesss! 🙌🏽 I’m honestly doing good with cutting down a lot of time on social media … but Lord … I still have my phone like EVERYWHERE with me 😂😂🤦🏽‍♀️

  2. I loved this. I read this after reading a lengthy argument on Facebook that was just unnecessary. I was bored, and it wasted my time. I’ve been burning myself out with social media lately. When I want to be doing blog related things, I just wander off of goals for the day. I think I need a break here soon. I loved this post! Thanks again! 😊

    1. Lol that’s funny! You read this post right after being on FB 😂😂😂 I’m guilty of it too though but I’m doing much better !! Haha! It’s so easy to get DISTRACTED!! Thanks for reading and showing my post some loveeee!♥️

  3. I totally agree with you!
I hate being distracting by social media though so turned most of my notifications off so I and only I decide when I want to spend a few time on them. xx
But it’s true social medias got some benefits as well!

  4. I agree with this so much! When I wake up I spend at least half an hour or more scrolling through all my accounts, and I’m constantly checking especially now that I have a blog so that I can engage. I really need to work on decreasing my screen time but I worry my blog won’t do as well. A good idea is to put your phone on airplane mode; I do it occasionally when I’m writing and it works wonders!

    1. Airplane is a great idea! I’m not gonna lie , I still have my phone in my hand a lot but I try to make sure it’s for a good reason! Like more than half the time when I’m checking my blog and engaging with other bloggers .. I use my phone to do it lol . Thanks for reading, commenting and showing my blog some loveee💕

  5. Girl, this is so spot on! I am guilty of checking my phone as soon as I wake up. It’s a habit that I’m trying to work on. Social media is amazing, but such a huge time waster! Thanks for sharing.

  6. Great post Jessica! I am so sorry to say this, but I think social media is dumbing down our society. People live their lives through social media and think they have all these friends on Facebook or Twitter, when most of those people are not friends at all. I really is sad how much people live online and do not even know how to socialize in person and real life. I am hardly ever on Facebook anymore because it is always way too much insane drama!

    1. I completely agree with you Alyssa! This current generation LIVES son social media and it’s ridiculous. It’s exactly why it’s a distraction IF you don’t how to use it to your advantage! Thanks for reading and commenting!

  7. I am guilty of most of those things! Social media has become a big distraction to me lately. I definitely intend to cut down on it and use my time in more productive ways! It’s amazing how the little bits of time we spend on social media can add up!
